24 Acts of Kindness to Count Down to Christmas

Kindness is learned, and what better way to teach it than to perform acts of kindness within your family and community! Reinforcing acts of kindness with hugs and high fives makes it even more fun! Kids of all ages can get in on the giving. Here is a list of 24 acts of kindness that you and your family can pick some from (or challenge yourself to do all 24!).

  • 1. Write a thank you note to your favorite teacher, nurse, doctor, or other public servant
  • 2. Choose some canned goods from the pantry to donate to a food bank
  • 3. Choose a toy to purchase online for a child in need on Toys for Tots’ Virtual Donation Box
  • 4. Give someone a nice compliment
  • 5. Print and color kindness coloring pages to give away (make sure to practice signing your name!)
  • 6. Reach out to someone who might be a little lonely and have a phone or video call
  • 7. Help mom or dad make dinner
  • 8. Practice saying “Please” and “Thank you”
  • 9. Invite friends or family to a virtual dance party
  • 10. Help a sibling or parent clean up a mess or straighten up their room
  • 11. Read a book to sibling or parent
  • 12. Make a sweet treat to drop on a neighbor or family member’s porch
  • 13. Create a piggy bank to collect coins to donate to a local charity
  • 14. Draw positive messages on the sidewalk with chalk
  • 15. Share your favorite toy
  • 16. Learn a joke to tell when someone needs cheered up
  • 17. Feed the birds, either by hand or with classic DIY Bird Feeders
